RESCUE/ADOPTION DOG TRAINING

You have done a wonderfully incredible thing, opening your heart and home to a dog that has been abandoned through no fault of their own. With that new joy comes responsibility. Introduce that new family member the right way by teaching him how to live happily in his/her new home. Rescue dogs often come with different issues than puppies. These special classes are targeted to those needs and help new owners overcome frustration and teach the dog to settle in smoothly and happily.

If you have recently adopted a rescue dog that is no longer a puppy, you might encounter these very specific behaviors that need addressing. Mostly these issues can be addressed with private training sessions at your home. However, occasionally, group classes are offered specifically for these dogs.

Concentration is on specific issues and behaviors that might include:

  • Jumping on people and furniture
  • Bonding
  • Shyness
  • Fear of men
  • Mouthing
  • Inappropriate chewing
  • Separation anxiety
  • Barking
  • Adjustments to children and other dogs
  • Learning to play
  • Living with cats
  • Walking on a leash
  • Fear of outside objects such as trash cans, cars, bikes, etc.
  • Chasing cars, bikes and kids
  • And general obedience commands
